Matthew grew up in Downingtown, PA and began playing soccer at the age of 7 with Spirit United SC. Matthew graduated Bishop Shanahan High School where he earned First Team All Ches-Mont League honors while being captain his senior year. After graduation, Matthew spent the Fall of 2012 in Manchester, England where he trained with the Manchester City Football Development Team coaches and played teams from around the world. In addition to training with Man City, he took coursework toward his UK Certificate in Sport, studying Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport, Physiology of Fitness, and Assessing Risk in Sport. Matthew returned to the States in December 2012 to attend Duquesne University and joined the Men’s Soccer Team for the Spring 2013 season. A striker through high school, he switched to center back while in England because of his aggressive, physical style of play and enjoys playing with the pitch in front of him and starting the offensive transition. He is a strong believer in pace, positioning and control. Matthew is a big supporter of Manchester City F.C. and the Barclay’s Premiership, having attended many games at the Ethiad Stadium. He is a proponent of fitness and nutrition and enjoys weight training and running.
